Kirmenjak was prized in the great works of ancient Rome and across Italy. Venice practically owes its existence to it, the stone has carried the city through its entire history and helped preserve much of its public art.
To this day it remains one of the most important materials in the restoration of Venice, the most enduring stone we carry.
Made to stand in salt water.
Pietra d'Istria has long been prized for its strength and its resistance to salt and water. Those qualities are why Kirmenjak built Venice: the same resistance that lets it sit in salt water made it the stone for the city's underwater foundations. It remains by far the most prevalent stone in Venetian architecture.
In its fine surface finishes the stone suits private projects beautifully, while its rougher finishes are well suited to large public works.

A fine, worked texture with grip, sure underfoot around water and on steps.
Flamed
Heat-opened for a rugged, natural face with the most traction.
